Lia was launched in 2004 and incorporates a range of features which make her ideally suited to coastal survey. The vessel has a high cruising speed but is able to run at low speed for extended periods due to her two speed gearbox and trolling valve system. This helps to minimise engine wear and optimises fuel consumption. Lia has a central moon-pool (square hatch through the deck) through which transducers are deployed using a sliding mechanical mounting system. The catamaran design gives excellent stability and working space for a vessel of this size.

The vessel provides a comfortable, fast and stable working platform which is well suited to extended 12 hour operation up to 60 miles offshore. Her shallow draft and excellent maneouvrability also mean that surveys can be extended close inshore, well above the low water mark in suitable conditions.
